Weeknotes A-05

February 17, 2025

Yes, I missed weeknotes last week. Admittedly, I decided to stay up and watch the Super Bowl instead, and a hectic few days afterward meant I forgot to write any. Nothing of note happened that week, so I am happy to let it slip this once. And while I have been busy behind the scenes, I am not ready to talk about that just yet. 🤫

Nothing of note really happened last week, either. I’m writing this weeknote at 6 a.m. Monday, in a bid to catch up on my slipping weeknotes habit. I also would feel guilty about not writing anything for a second week in a row. 🙃

I had some nice catchups with TPX colleagues throughout the week, and the project work continues to be quite full-on as we head into the final stage of discovery. Some business processes need an internal review, so they have been pushed back in scope. While not ideal, this has allowed some further refinements in other processes, which is a good use of time. ✏️

Looks like another quiet week ahead, as I flick through the calendar. I’m running a workshop later this afternoon, attending another Wednesday, and will likely spend the rest of the week synthesizing the work and getting sign-off on journey maps and user stories. 💻

Outside of work, it’s been much the same: fairly quiet. I have started to reintroduce hot/cold therapy into my daily routine.  Something I did religiously when I was training five or six days a week, but since the birth of my daughter, as to be expected, the routine got thrown out the window. There are a lot of health benefits, and I’ve found it gets me in a great headspace, ready to start the day. I did manage to get some artwork up in the office; it’s been on the list for a long time. And someone stole our bin lid last week, which wasn’t ideal. I think that’s it. Oh, I did manage to finish building a Lego F1 car my brother got me for Christmas. 🏎️

Watching 📺

We finished SAS Rogue Heroes, and it’s brilliant. Highly recommend watching it; it’s a great series.  Started watching The Bikeriders too, another one that’s been on the list for a while. I loved watching Sons of Anarchy; this is obviously a little less gritty, but it’s pretty good so far. Got a bit more into Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and managed to watch Fast X—which was an experience... I love cars and grew up watching the Fast and the Furious films. I had the first two on repeat for years when I was a kid. You can keep your Bob the Builder, thanks. Obviously, the target audience has changed; now it feels more like a multiversal crossover we don’t deserve or need. But I’ll still watch Part 2 when it comes out on Sky because I still have an attachment to the Fast series, and it’s not that bad. The target audience has moved with the times, and when you accept that, it makes the films more enjoyable. 💥

While I watched the Super Bowl, I do not know anything about American football—but the Super Bowl is always fun to watch, the halftime shows anyway. I watched the first quarter, fell asleep during the second, woke up just before halftime, and then fell asleep again and missed the rest. I have the same problem when I stay up to watch UFC. Clearly, late nights are not something I can do very well anymore. 😴

Listening 📻

Lots of K Dot this week, old and new. The Super Bowl helped fuel this, of course. Not much else other than a couple of JRE episodes I’m partway through. 🏈

Reading 📖

Some very early starts last week meant I had some quiet time at 4 a.m. to read. So, I managed to read a good chunk of my book, which is a plus. I’m about a quarter of the way through this massive double book special of Band of Brother and Great Escapes. Maybe I’ll finish it by Christmas. I’ve ordered a few more books. I really enjoyed Clarkson’s Farm, both the series and the book, so I’ve got the two most recent on the way. 🚜

A short and sweet weeknotes to get back into the swing of things.
